FAQ - Sedation Imaging

What is Intravenous Sedation?
Sometimes called "conscious sedation," the patient is administered medications through an IV tube that allows the patient to be deeply relaxed yet still able to cooperate with the medical staff. Most patients have such a pleasant experience that they have the exam and are not even aware the test has been completed.

Is Intravenous Sedation Safe?
In addition to the patients' comfort, safety is our primary concern. During sedation, our experienced staff and state-of-the art equipment continuously monitor the patient heart rate, blood pressure and pulse. Continuous oxygen is also supplied and monitored throughout the exam. A medical history will be reviewed to determine if the patient is eligible for Intravenous Sedation. A Medial Doctor (MD) and Registered Nurse (RN) are available on the premises at all times. IV sedation services are available for adults 18 years and up. We provide pediatric oral sedation for patients 3 years and younger.

What Medications are Used?
Depending on the patient's needs and history, a short-acting Benzodiazepine tranquilizer is used.
